Shayona Cement Corporation Ltd. is Malawi’s leading local cement manufacturer and innovator, established in 1994 by Managing Director, Mr. J.N. Patel. We are committed to providing high-quality building solutions and contributing to the economic growth and sustainable development of Malawi.
What types of cement does Shayona Cement manufacture?
Shayona Cement manufactures three main brands: Akshar Cement, a multipurpose cement suitable for heavy-duty construction requiring high performance, durability, and strength; Buildplast Cement, a quality cement for plaster and brickwork that offers high workability and coverage and resists sagging, cracking, and shrinkage; and Thanthwe Cement, a 42.5R grade cement specifically used in vital structures such as dams, bridges, flyovers, airports, railways, and high-rise buildings.
Where is Shayona Cement located?
Shayona Cement has a cement manufacturing plant located in Kasungu District at Mwimila Village in Chief Wimbe area. The factory is about 30 Kms from the Kamuzu Academy in Kasungu District. Additionally, the corporate head offices for Shayona Cement are based in Lilongwe.
How do I know the correct cement mix proportions to use?

Proportions are based on volume and using good quality materials such as sand. However, Shayona Cement recommends all users to carry out their own testing to ensure the right cement mix for their specific requirements. Can Akshar, Buildplast, and Thanthwe cement be used with additives?
Yes, Akshar Cement, Buildplast Cement and Thanthwe Cement can be used with all cement additives and admixtures when used in accordance with the manufacturers’ recommendations. You should also add sufficient water to achieve the desired mix consistency.

Shayona Cement contributes significantly to the development of Malawi by creating over 1,200 employment opportunities, saving foreign exchange through local cement availability, generating revenue for the Malawi Government through taxes, providing a market for local raw material suppliers, helping in household income generation for local villagers, promoting the transport industry, contributing to infrastructure development, and striving for self-sufficiency of cement availability in Malawi. We also utilise over 90% local raw materials in our cement production.
